Gold Coast group transfers for conferences, teams and theme parks

The Gold Coast is a long strip with its airport at the southern end, on the state border. Transfers are straightforward once three things are settled: the airport's registration rules, the clock across the border, and set-downs in Surfers Paradise while works continue.

Coolangatta arrivals

Cavill Mall in Surfers Paradise is about 22 km from Gold Coast Airport (OOL), around 30 minutes in light traffic. Every bus using the airport is registered through its Ground Transport Gateway and carries the RFID sticker, or holds casual access approved and paid before the day. Waiting happens in the airport's holding area off May Bradford Drive (a left turn in), and loading in the GT Transit Area, the angled bays around the turning circle at the end of Terminal Drive. Nothing parks in front of the terminal.

Brisbane Airport is about 85 km from Surfers Paradise, an hour or more, and the Gateway Motorway route crosses the Murarrie toll point. For groups arriving that way, send the landing time and the hotel; the quote shows the tolled route.

Mind the border clock

Queensland does not use daylight saving. New South Wales does, from 4 October 2026 until 4 April 2027, so in that period Tweed Heads and Byron Bay are an hour ahead of the Gold Coast. The airport sits on the line. Write every time on the run sheet in Queensland time and say so: a Byron Bay dinner booked for 7 pm is 6 pm on the coach's clock.

Conference and game days

GCCEC at Broadbeach hosts groups of 10 to 6,000. Broadbeach hotels are a walk away; loops are needed from Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and Burleigh Heads. For games at People First Stadium in Carrara or Cbus Super Stadium in Robina, agree the set-down beforehand and one return meeting point.

In Surfers Paradise the old transit centre closed in late 2025, and the council's replacement, a Surfers Paradise Coach Interchange on the Cypress Palms site, is under construction through 2026. While those works run, confirm set-down points with each hotel.

Hinterland and theme parks

Tamborine Mountain is about 45 minutes, Springbrook's Natural Bridge about an hour and O'Reilly's at Lamington about 1.75 hours. A guided walk in those parks is run by a tour operator holding a Queensland Parks Commercial Activity Permit. The big theme parks sit at Oxenford and Coomera on the northern side, handy for groups based between the coast and Brisbane.

Questions

Gold Coast Airport or Brisbane Airport?

OOL is about 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise; BNE is an hour or more. Use OOL when the flights allow.

Which time zone should the run sheet use?

Queensland time throughout. While New South Wales is on daylight saving, it runs an hour ahead, which affects anything booked in Tweed Heads or Byron Bay.

Can the coach wait at the terminal kerb?

No. It holds off May Bradford Drive and moves to the GT Transit Area when the group is ready to board.
