A minibus fits groups too big for two cars and too small to justify a coach. Plan the luggage first, because a full load leaves little room at the back.
Seats against bags
A 20-seat minibus with 20 passengers and 20 suitcases rarely works. For airport runs, leave seats empty for bags, ask whether a luggage trailer is available, or step up to a midi coach. On day trips with daypacks, the full seat count is usable.
A trailer changes the rules at some terminals. At Brisbane's cruise terminal, any vehicle towing one must use the Coach & Shuttle Area, not the two-minute pickup loop.

Rules that change by state
A minibus seating more than 12 adults, driver included, needs a light rigid licence up to 8 t GVM. Only in Victoria do the Heavy Vehicle National Law fatigue rules also reach light buses of 4.5 t GVM or less that seat more than 12. Victorian operators running buses with 10 or more seats must be accredited, and their tour and charter drivers need Safe Transport Victoria accreditation. In NSW, a Bus Driver Authority lasts three years, with yearly health checks for drivers over 60.
Where a minibus gets in
Smaller vehicles reach set-down points that coaches cannot. Townsville's NRL stadium lets vehicles seating 22 or fewer use its Dean Street car park for drop-off and collection, no booking needed. At Suncorp Stadium, on-street coach and limousine zones take registered buses of 12 or more seats by application. Perth Airport sorts its bus zones by size, with a category for small buses and minibuses.

Can one minibus carry a sports team?
A squad of 15 to 18 with kit usually fits. Bigger squads with bags need a midi coach or a second vehicle.
Is a minibus quicker than a coach?
On the road, not much. At the kerb, often: fewer people board faster, and a smaller vehicle fits more set-down spaces.
Does a minibus driver need a bus licence?
Above 12 seats including the driver, yes: a light rigid licence, plus the state's bus driver authority or accreditation.
