Ship-to-airport and ship-to-hotel transfers

Five cruise ports: Sydney's two terminals at Circular Quay and White Bay, Melbourne's Station Pier, the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, Fremantle for Perth and Macquarie Wharf in Hobart. Each page covers vehicle access, where groups meet the coach and the time to the airport.

Turnaround days run on the ship's clock

At Circular Quay's Overseas Passenger Terminal, passengers usually start coming ashore roughly half an hour after the ship ties up, and those sailing are asked to arrive no later than an hour before departure. Work back from those times to the hotel checkout or the flight, not forward from breakfast.

Every terminal restricts access

Brisbane's terminal admits only coaches pre-booked by the cruise lines; any other charter needs prior agreement with the port and the car park operator. Hobart needs 48 hours' notice to TasPorts for any pickup by a vehicle bigger than a 12-seater. At Station Pier, tour operators and ground handlers need a Ports Victoria licence.

Questions

What does the operator need for a ship transfer?

The vessel, the sailing date, when passengers come ashore or must be back aboard, the passenger count, luggage and where the group goes next.

Can the coach wait at the terminal?

Usually not. The Overseas Passenger Terminal has no waiting bays on ship days, and White Bay limits its car park to 15-minute stays.

Is the Brisbane terminal nearer the airport or the city?

The airport: about 12 km, roughly 15 minutes. The CBD is about 21 km away, with no public transport to the terminal, so most groups need a vehicle both ways.
