Blue Mountains group transfers: Katoomba, Leura and the cliff-top venues
The upper Blue Mountains are about 90 minutes from central Sydney, and groups make the run as a day trip or for a conference offsite. What decides the plan is where a coach may legally stop in Katoomba.
Airport runs
Allow 90 minutes to two hours for the 110 km from Sydney Airport. Nearer the mountains, the new airport at Badgerys Creek, Western Sydney International, is due to begin passenger flights in late October 2026; from then it is the nearest option, roughly 70 km by road. Of the M4, only the WestConnex stretch from Haberfield to Church Street, Parramatta carries a toll; the road west of Parramatta is untolled. Coaches exceeding 12.5 m long or 2.8 m tall pay the Class B toll on Sydney's motorways.

Stopping rules in Katoomba
At Echo Point, council cameras detect vehicles stopping in No Stopping zones, including buses setting down in the roundabout. Regulated bus zones exist, but their locations are not published, so the operator agrees set-down and parking before the coach leaves Sydney. Pay parking in the town centres and at key lookouts takes cards or the app, not coins.
A 2 m clearance keeps coaches out of Scenic World's own car park, so the attraction and the operator agree a set-down on Violet Street. Council is preparing a visitor bus management plan with a proposed booking system; rules for coaches may change between seasons, and the operator checks them before each job.

Offsites at Leura and Medlow Bath
Leura is five to ten minutes from Katoomba and Blackheath about 20. For an offsite at one of the resort hotels, one vehicle sized to the group, running in once and out once, is simpler than a string of cars. The day plan to send: departure point in Sydney, arrival time for the first session, any lookout stop, and the return time.
Weather and closures
Roads and walks close for bushfire danger, storms or maintenance. On the morning, the driver checks Live Traffic NSW and the national parks alerts page; keep a second lookout in the plan in case the first is shut. Jenolan Caves stays shut during road repairs, and early 2027 is the planned reopening, so leave it off current itineraries.
Questions
Can the coach drop us at the Three Sisters?
Not in the Echo Point roundabout; that is camera enforced. The operator agrees a legal set-down point before the day.
Is Bathurst reachable from Katoomba?
Yes. It is about 100 km, roughly an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half.
How early should we leave Sydney for a morning session?
The mountains are about 100 km from the city centre, roughly 90 minutes in normal traffic. Leave well before peak hour to protect the start time.
