Townsville Airport (TSV): hold nearby, load and go
Townsville Airport publishes no coach pickup point. Collection is from the signed public zone right outside the building, and the driver may not leave the vehicle, so the plan rests on good timing and a short wait nearby.
Holding area and kerb
A few minutes from the terminal there is a free holding area where drivers may wait up to 30 minutes for their passengers. The driver sits there and comes forward when the group lead calls. Commonwealth security rules make the whole site a restricted parking zone. Nothing may park at the terminal frontage, a stop anywhere undesignated risks an infringement notice, and the car parks are built for ordinary light vehicles, not buses.
With a 30-minute limit on the holding area, a long delay means the vehicle leaves and comes back. Share the flight number; the operator follows it live.

Into the city
Flinders Street is about 9 km away. The Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre is on Entertainment Drive, and hotels cluster along The Strand, in the city centre and on Palmer Street. A straggler has two fallbacks: the airport shuttle, which meets major flights and drops at city hotels and at the ferry terminal for Magnetic Island, or the hourly Translink 222 to the city bus hub.
Transfer time to the CBD
- about 9 km by road to Flinders Street in the city centre, about 10-15 min in light traffic
Terminals
- Single passenger terminal
Teams and game days
Visiting teams and supporter groups heading to Queensland Country Bank Stadium work to a set layout. Vehicles with 22 seats or fewer may load and unload inside the Dean Street car park (entry from Rooney Street), no booking needed. Anything bigger goes to a charter bus zone on the Central Park side of Dean Street, which must be booked. There is no public parking on site on major event days.
Island and road trips
Magnetic Island is about 20 minutes by passenger ferry from the Breakwater terminal, and most groups cross that way and use island transport. Reef HQ is closed for a rebuild. Long runs such as Townsville to Cairns, about 350 km, are planned within Heavy Vehicle National Law work and rest limits.
Questions
Can the coach park at the airport while we wait for bags?
No. The car parks take light vehicles only and the terminal frontage is no-parking. The driver holds nearby and comes in when called.
Can a coach take a group up to Paluma?
Mount Spec Road is narrow, steep and without guard rails, and has been closed by landslips; the operator confirms whether it is open and which vehicle suits.
What should the request include?
Flight times, headcount and gear (team kit adds bulk), the hotel or stadium address, and whether the stadium charter zone needs booking.
