Cairns group logistics: reef departures, rainforest and the Daintree ferry
Cairns is close to its airport and a long way from some of its best days out. Transfers are timed against fixed departures: reef boats, the railway, the cableway and a river ferry.
Airport to the Esplanade
City Place is some 7 km from Cairns Airport, which has T1 International and T2 Domestic; allow 10 to 15 minutes when traffic is light. Both have designated ground transport zones for commercial operators, who need an approved Ground Access Licence. The public zones outside the terminals are for immediate pick-up only, and no coach staging area is published, so the call-in is timed to the group clearing baggage.
Palm Cove is about 25 minutes north and Port Douglas about an hour. Split the manifest by hotel zone and the quote shows whether one vehicle covers the drops or several run in parallel.

Reef and Kuranda connections
The Reef Fleet Terminal is the departure point for the reef, Green Island and Fitzroy Island boats. Collections from Port Douglas and the northern beaches work back from the boat's boarding time, not the hotel breakfast.
Kuranda suits a one-way loop. The Scenic Railway runs 37 km from Cairns or Freshwater station; Skyrail starts at Smithfield (6 Skyrail Drive), roughly 15 minutes up the road from the city, and a one-way ride with the Red Peak and Barron Falls stops runs about 1.5 hours. The vehicle drops the group at the start and repositions to the finish; the Smithfield terminal has parking for oversized vehicles.

North to the Daintree
Mossman Gorge is 77 km north, about 1.25 hours; groups use the Mossman Gorge Centre and its shuttle into the gorge. The Daintree River ferry, about 1.5 hours from Cairns, runs 5 am to midnight and the crossing takes about 15 minutes including loading. Queues are long in school holidays; tourism buses may use the priority lane (managed 9 am to 4.30 pm during peak season). Tides and river conditions can halt the ferry, so the operator checks its status before departure. Cape Tribulation is about 2.5 hours in all.
Guided tours in the Daintree or Barron Gorge national parks need a Queensland Parks Commercial Activity Permit, held by the tour operator rather than the transport.
Questions
Are there tolls on Cairns transfers?
No. Queensland's toll roads are all in the south-east of the state.
Can Skyrail and the railway be combined?
Yes, one way each. The coach sets down at one terminal and meets the group at the other; send both booked times.
How far are the Atherton Tablelands?
Atherton is about 90 km, roughly 1.5 hours by road.
