Moving groups to Australia's biggest events
Four fixtures that close roads and put heavy demand on group vehicles: in Melbourne, the Cup Carnival, the tennis and the Formula 1; in Sydney, the Vivid light festival. Every page lists dates, venue and the access plan for groups.
The next twelve months
Flemington's Cup Carnival opens with Derby Day on 31 October 2026 and closes on 7 November, Cup Day being Tuesday 3 November. Australian Open at Melbourne Park: 11 to 31 January 2027. Formula 1 at Albert Park: 1 to 4 April 2027, adding Australia's first Sprint. Vivid Sydney lights the harbour for 23 nights, ending 19 June 2027 after a Friday 28 May start.
Set-down is the hard part
Albert Park has no public parking during the Grand Prix. Melbourne Park allows 20 minutes to drop off or pick up before parking charges start. In Sydney, the King Street Wharf layover takes NSW-accredited charter coaches registered in advance, but no loading happens inside it. Agree a drop point and a return meeting point before the day.
Questions
How early should event transport be booked?
As soon as dates are fixed. Three of these events fall in Melbourne within about five months, and demand for vehicles peaks around each.
Are event tickets part of the booking?
No. The booking covers vehicle, driver and timings; entry tickets and hospitality packages are arranged separately.
Will the vehicle wait during the event?
Usually it sets down, moves to a permitted parking area and returns at an agreed time.
