Flemington Race Days: Transport for Cup Carnival Groups

The 2026 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington Racecourse spans eight days, 31 October to 7 November, and the Cup itself is run on Tuesday 3 November. Corporate marquees and hospitality groups need guests delivered on time and collected in one piece after the last race.

Four race days, four movement plans

Race days in 2026: Saturday 31 October is Derby Day; Tuesday 3 November, Melbourne Cup Day; Thursday 5 November, Oaks Day; Saturday 7 November, Champions Stakes Day. Each day has its own crowd and road conditions, so quote each one separately rather than copying one run sheet across the week.

Set-down is the operator's call

Flemington publishes no coach set-down rules. The operator plans where the vehicle stops and collects, based on its size and the gate the group is using. Under the 2026 arrangements, rideshare drop-offs happen at the Main Gate, and the course's only taxi rank (the Main Rank) is accessed from Stables Drive; a pre-booked vehicle with a named pick-up spot keeps guests out of both queues.

For the 2026 Carnival, ticket holders park free on race days, with the best entry via Flemington Drive off Epsom Road. Guests driving themselves still face the same exit traffic as everyone else.

Operating notes

  • The Victoria Racing Club recommends the train: Metro trains run directly between Southern Cross Station and Flemington Racecourse station on all race days.
  • Rideshare passengers are dropped off at the Main Gate, and the one taxi rank (the Main Rank) is reached via Stables Drive.
  • The 2026 Carnival race days are Derby Day (Saturday 31 October), Melbourne Cup Day (Tuesday 3 November), Oaks Day (Thursday 5 November) and Champions Stakes Day (Saturday 7 November).
  • Tram route 57 stops at Flemington Drive (Stop 30), outside the main gate; route 57 does not run low-floor trams, so passengers using mobility aids are advised to take the train.
  • Public parking at Flemington is complimentary for race-day ticket holders, with the best entry through Flemington Drive off Epsom Road.

Getting guests home

The last race is when every group wants to leave. Agree a return time, a meeting point and a contact on each vehicle before the day. A longer gap after the final race means a calmer load and fewer missing passengers.

The club's advice for 2026 is to go by train: Metro runs straight from Southern Cross Station to the racecourse's own station on each race day. Route 57 trams stop by the main gate at Flemington Drive (Stop 30), but the route has no low-floor trams, so guests using mobility aids should take the train or a booked accessible vehicle.

No. They are the 2026 Carnival dates; the 2027 program is set by the Victoria Racing Club.
