Brisbane Airport (BNE): staged nearby, called forward on landing

Brisbane publishes a proper waiting area for licensed vehicles, which few Australian airports do. The coach can sit a few minutes from the terminals, watching the flight boards, and move up when the group is ready.

Staging at the Central Parking Area

Drivers hold in the Central Parking Area (Nancy Bird Way, turning off Bert Hinkler Drive), free of charge until their flights and passengers arrive. It has toilets, a cafe and flight information boards, which matters on a day of delays: the driver can sit out a long delay there without running the loading-zone clock.

The terminal loading zones work differently. Entry and exit are by electronic tag and boom gate, and time inside is charged by vehicle class, so the vehicle should enter only once the group is standing ready, not before.

Domestic and International pickups

At the Domestic Terminal, the Bus and Coach area faces the multi-level car park and is kept for minibuses, buses and coaches with five or more on board. At the International Terminal, every licensed vehicle class shares one pickup area on the terminal's southern side, which vehicles reach from the Level 2 arrivals road.

Domestic and International are different buildings. A free Terminal Transfer Bus runs between them about every 10 minutes and Airtrain links them too, so for a conference with delegates on both sides, bring the international arrivals across and run one departure from Domestic.

Transfer time to the CBD

Licences and the road to town

Pre-booked collections are limited to vehicles named on the operator's Ground Transport Operator (GTO) licence with the airport, and a GTO licence needs Queensland transport accreditation behind it. Simply stopping in a bus zone or a No Stopping zone is an offence that draws an infringement notice. The run to City Hall uses AirportlinkM7 or the Gateway Motorway, both tolled and both cashless.

At the city end, private coaches may park only at approved inner-city spots and times on the council's maps. For a hotel check-in, plan a set-down and move on.

Questions

Can delegates go straight to the South Bank convention centre?

Yes. It is across the river from the CBD; give the entrance the organisers want used and the arrival window.

Some of the group is heading to the Gold Coast. How far is it?

Surfers Paradise is some 85 km south; plan on an hour or longer. Airtrain also continues to the Gold Coast, which helps anyone who misses the group vehicle.

What will the quote show?

Vehicle class and seats, the terminal pickup point, the waiting time allowed from landing, tolls, and whether loading-zone time charges are covered.
