Station Pier Transfers for Cruise Groups and Crews
Station Pier in Port Melbourne handles most of the cruise ships calling in Victoria. Access is controlled at a Gatehouse, so the plan has to match what security will allow on the day.
Arrivals: where the group actually meets the vehicle
Disembarking passengers exit via the Gatehouse, and a meeter can stand in Waterfront Place. Booked private vehicles collect from the pier's entrance car park, which is also where drivers are required to wait. Give the group leader that meeting point before the ship docks, so nobody waits at the wrong exit.
Paid short-term parking beside the pier is limited and the pier offers no luggage storage. A group with a late flight needs either a vehicle that holds the bags all day or a hotel in between.

Embarkation: approval before the Gatehouse
Dropping off passengers who are boarding requires sign-off from the cruise line, and security at the Gatehouse looks at boarding documents before the vehicle goes any further. Have passengers keep their documents in hand rather than packed in checked bags. Ground handlers and tour operators working on the pier itself must hold a seasonal Ancillary Service Provider Licence from Ports Victoria; the operator confirms that side.

The 2026-27 season and airport links
The Ports Victoria schedule for 2026-27 opens with a call on 11 October 2026 and includes turnaround visits, the days when passengers begin or finish a cruise here. Those are the days that need airport transfers.
Melbourne Airport is about 28 km away and Avalon about 56 km. At Tullamarine, permitted buses wait only in their allocated zone and cannot be left unattended, so the airport leg is timed to the landing.
Questions
Can a coach come onto the pier to collect disembarking passengers?
No. Booked vehicles use the entrance car park and wait there; passengers come out to them through the Gatehouse.
Is there public transport for anyone who splits off?
Route 109 trams run into the city from Stop 129 Beacon Cove, within easy walking distance. An airport express bus links Melbourne Airport with Southern Cross Station.
Should we book from Avalon or Tullamarine?
Whichever the flights use. Tullamarine is the closer of the two to the pier; the drive times are listed on this page.
